Jāzeps Vītols 7th International Piano Competition has come to its close


The intense and emotional week of Jāzeps Vītols 7th International Piano Competition has come to its close. The “Grand Prix” and 3000 EUR sponsored by the Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation were awarded to the 21-year-old pianist Aleksandr Kashpurin from Russia who also received the prize for the best interpretation of Jāzeps Vītols’ music and an invitation to collaborate with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra.

Professor Artis Sīmanis Receives Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation Badge of Honour


On October 26, 2017 the outstanding musician, teacher and long-time leader of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, professor Artis Sīmanis at the Opening Ceremony of Jāzeps Vītols 7th International Piano Competition received the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation Badge of Honour.

Professor Artis Sīmanis received this award for his contribution to education quality improvement and for developing the academy as an open platform for Latvian and foreign musical values, as well as for providing tireless support to young musicians on their paths towards international successes.

“The time since 2007, when Artis was appointed Rector, was marked by strategic and significant improvements. These ten years have set the foundation for inevitable future development,” comments Helēna Demakova, the curator of Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation (BITF) program “Art in Public Space”, upon presenting the Badge of Honours to professor Sīmanis.

One of the most significant events of Latvian piano music scene - the 7th Jāzeps Vītols International Piano Competition - will commence next week, organized by Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, and Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation.
